PVOH, PVA,… sounds jibberish? Let’s break it down for you.

PVOH or PVA (also known as polyvinyl alcohol) is often described as a ‘water-soluble plastic’. While it does break down in certain conditions, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s harmless. In fact, without the right industrial processes in place, it can contribute to the spread of microplastics in our environment. We believe that PVOH is a synthetic, colourless, odourless, water soluble, plastic.

Sustainability is a very complex issue, and brands have to be transparent giving you the facts to make choices you can feel good about.

The reality is, it’s still a plastic that can easily slip through the cracks when brands try to tout their products as plastic-free. It’s this kind of confusion around product claims that Ecover has been actively working on to clear up since the very start in 1979 (gosh, we’re old!). We launched with one mission: to tackle the dirty side of cleaning. And we’re committed to actively combat the lack of transparency that so often leaves consumers in the dark.
